The LIFE SeagrassRIAwild project aims to establish a network of Guardians of the Ria de Aveiro, in collaboration with the ONG Ocean Alive. This initiative seeks to engage women from the local fishing community in protecting the valuable Zostera marina seagrass meadows.

The Guardians of the Ria will play a central role in environmental education, community awareness, and seagrass mapping, while valuing the traditional knowledge of local fishers. By encouraging active female participation, the project promotes female leadership, employability, and behavioral changes in support of marine conservation.

During the meeting, representatives from the Associação de Pesca Artesanal da Região de Aveiro (APARA) and local shellfish gatherers came together to better understand the realities and specific needs of the fishing community.

O projeto LIFE SeagrassRIAwild tem como objetivo criar uma rede de Guardiãs da Ria de Aveiro, em colaboração com a ONG Ocean Alive. Esta iniciativa busca envolver mulheres da comunidade piscatória local na proteção das valiosas pradarias marinhas de Zostera marina.

As Guardiãs da Ria desempenharão um papel central na educação ambiental, sensibilização da comunidade e mapeamento das pradarias, valorizando a sabedoria tradicional dos pescadores locais. Ao incentivar a participação ativa das mulheres, o projeto promove liderança feminina, empregabilidade e mudanças de comportamento em prol da conservação marinha.

No dia da reunião, representantes da Associação de Pesca Artesanal da Região de Aveiro (APARA) e mariscadoras locais se encontraram para discutir a realidade da comunidade piscatória e identificar suas necessidades específicas.
